Spring Garden Checklist

Spring Garden Checklist

It’s Spring! With this glorious season starting, there are a lot of things you need to do in order to get your lawn and garden ready for the upcoming warmer months. Feel free to print this out as a handy Spring preparation guide.

  1. Clear your plant beds. Time to remove dried winter foliage and protective mulch.
  2. Divide your perennials. It’s time to take all of the lilies, tulips, irises, etc and spread them out to new areas to thin them out. They need room to bloom.
  3. Add fresh mulch. There are different types of mulch that are rated for Spring beds.
  4. Prune trees and shrubs. This is self explanatory! However, if you have questions, try and identify the type of tree or shrub to prevent over-pruning.
  5. Give your hardscaping a look. Observe closely to see if there is any frost-damage to awnings, patios, and any raised beds.
  6. Plant your spring vegetable bed. If you were inclined to harvest the fruits of your labor early in the summer, plant your vegetables now!
  7. Take care of your wildlife. Clean your bird-feeders, houses, and baths. Thoroughly clean any hummingbird feeders.

Once you’ve taken care of this checklist, your yard will be ready to enjoy for the duration of the spring! Check back with us in the summer for our summer lawn care guide! As always, if you need help with any of the items in this list, your friends at Virginia Lawn Service, Inc. are here to help.
